Is the Xbox One X Worth It?

Who Needs The Xbox One X?

Before we discuss, I have to say that I'm happy the Xbox One X exists in the market today. It pushes innovation forward and sets the benchmark for future consoles. From here on, if a new console was to be announced the first comparison would be to the Xbox One X, except for Nintendo who seems to ignore the competition and stick to their product pushing IP. But the question remains, who is this console for and is it worth it for that consumer to make the extremely expensive and early plunge.

As for who this console is for, well there is a small window of buyers between the gaming market, like pickles in a metaphorical gaming hamburger. I say this because those who have money to spend on an elite gaming set-up have the option of investing in a PC that can be customized in the future, which can add to the cost but makes this system future proof. While those (like me) who are on a budget, gravitate towards a console because the game is guaranteed to play without the worry of specifications. These consumers have a variety of options ranging in price, and now that the Xbox One X has hit the shelves, the Xbox One S is now within most consumer budgets.

With that in mind, I'll ask again, who is the Xbox One X for? It's not the PC marketplace since the system has no option to be altered or customized in terms of hardware. And I think we can agree this is not the console for those on a budget especially since PS4 pro has also dropped in price and has seen bundle deals such as this beautiful Destiny 2 PS4 Pro Bundle for $50 less then the newly announced Xbox.

But in the market there are those known as innovators and early adopters. These are consumers who will purchase blindly, and make their own judgement without waiting for the market to review the product. And in this case, these consumers are those who are thirsty for 4K gaming, but were simply waiting for their moment to make the plunge into the expensive venture. They may have been saving since the first Xbox One, skipping the S, and waiting for a machine from Microsoft that can make the most of a 4K monitor or TV. But this is normally only 15% of the market, and I don't see this system reaching too far past this footprint in the gaming market.

The reason is my final point that I want to get into, but we're going to leave opinion based on fact behind and dive into speculation. This reason is that the progression of technology has increased along with our lust for ownership of the newest tech. And with that said I don't think the Xbox One X will be king for more then 2 years. As mentioned technology is rapidly improving, and by the time most of us will be able to afford the console a new one will be on its way. So, I have to say, the Xbox One X is not worth purchasing despite it's value as a benchmark.

But what do you think? Do you already have a 4K TV and want a new Xbox to make use of it?
